22-250 rifles

I have a Savage and a Remington that are excellent for small game and varmints. It is a pretty versatile round.

I used to shoot prairie dogs up in Seligman. It was a lot of fun with a bull barrel .223 shooting 40 gr V-Max reloads. You could see the hit through the scope, no noticeable recoil. I bought the same rifle in 22-250 for longer range, with the same bullet. I could never see my hits, as the recoil was taking me off target. I got rid of the 22-250.

That sounds like a pretty good time and a good use for my new Savage Varmint 223. Any idea if there's still a good Pdog population up there (or closer to the east valley)?

I was hitting them until 2013. The Boquias Ranch, started charging shooters $20.00 per day. I have found some shooting on the south side of Rt. 66. Williamson Valley Rd at the 1st Seligman exit going west is ok. However, the dogs jump in their holes as soon as they spot you. If the ranch still allows shooting, enter off 66 on the north side. The road is marked. follow to the main house. Good luck on the quest.

I looked into it a little, looks like they're still allowing hunts. General consensus is that the quality of hunts has gone up since starting to charge. Some hikes around here cost pert near as much, so the price of admission dosen't cause me to balk.

Once I get the Varmint tuned up and dialed in, we may have to go on a road trip!

There is nothing better than 22-250 for varmints when the weather conditions include light winds. Stiff winds shove the bullet a bunch at longer ranges. I never liked the 22-250 for coyotes as the recoil always took me of target and allowed the second coyote to escape. 223 way just a deadly and allowed the second deadly shot.

I was out on a deer scouting trip down by Aravica jct. I brought my ruger #1 22-250 with my handloads of 40 grain ballistic tips @3950 muzzle.

I was creeping along a two track. I look to my right, big jack sitting 125 yards away.
I leveled on him. Two pops, one from the rifle and one from a jack exploding. Good thing I wasn’t hunting food .

Tikka T3. I have had it for a long time. Scope is a Bushnell Elite 3200. It shoots well with my handloads.
