Nitrided barrels and Barrel profiles

#1

Post by veteran1981 »

Has anybody here shot out a nitrided barrel?
Seems like all the barrel profiles I like are nitrided. I hate govt profile, makes zero sense. I always prefer a good chrome lined barrel but nowadays seems like it’s either govt profile or nitrided if you want something other than that.
Geissele new upper has govt profile at least on their 14.5 new upper from my understanding.
Just a small rant is all
Lol

I’m confused how the govt profile allows
More sustained fire??
Some Military units have made the switch to a socom profile that’s thicker under the handguard and by the chamber to handle heat and sustain fire longer. The govt profile is opposite and thinner by chamber and under handguard.
Never under stood govt profile.
That’s where you need the extra meat because that’s where the heat starts.

The only issue that I have had with nitride vs chrome lined barrels is that chrome lined seems to have less issues with FTE and steel cased ammo than nitride. I know.... shoot better ammo....
