I have only shot to 1000yds in competition but I did it with open sights on an M1 Garand. I could see the target (barely) and didn't have a team helping me to make my repeated hits.

No one is saying ELF is easy but when you can't directly see the target nor put the reticle on it then it is now indirect fire plain and simple. From the what I see in the video it appears they have a display in front of the scope showing them the target from a downrange camera(?).

One hit out of 23rds fired shows that after buying the gear necessary to shot that far in the first place, it simply comes down to luck. Even after hitting the target with what would apparently be a rifle now sighted into the target he couldn't repeat his hit.

Personally I am MUCH more impressed by this woman. She shoots an egg at 304yds with a .22LR from the off hand position. Note the grass moving, so there is also wind to deal with.

The guy barely hit a target on the top edge that was what 4 feet square and then he quit.
Just like every other youtube video of these long shots.
Sorry not impressed.
Do it a few times consecutively then he would have my attention.
The standard ELR target for records is a 36"x36"
The requirement for records is 3/3 impacts
I have met this gentleman, his record only lasted a few weeks
https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/201 ... 118-yards/

It's a game and people are having fun doing it, whether you're impressed or not.

There is no comparison in the original post and what you posted.
Like I originally said if the guy would have hit the target more than once I might be impressed , but he didn't , he quit after hitting it one time.
I do not believe he could do it two more times if you gave him another 21 shots.

well for me, it looks like the old boys had a great time figuring out the physics of it all, making the attempt and as a team being successful, now that as a whole, (meaning getting gun guys to agree on any one subject) is the fricken feat of success.

let alone the fact that they did hit the target, its no different than siting in any other long range shooter, you gotta dial it in, it takes shots, knowing the weapon, and understanding the wind, so many variables,
i say hooray for them,

I tell you what. I would put this 12 yr old girl, that's not a shooter up against all of you. With technology doing all the work. But hey she pulled the trigger so she deserves all the credit. Anyone can be a sniper.

Why don't you come out and show us how it's done. There is at least 2-3 Precision Rifle matches each month. My buddy's 8 y/o daughter shoots these matches and beats grown-ass men regularly...

I stand corrected on the display comment. Very interesting bit of equipment.

What have I done as in what ??? (not sure what the 3 question marks are all about ).
I have shot 1000 yards before.
I have to admit I shoot 800 yards more than 1000.
You seem to be offended that someone would question what the guy in the original post has done.
The guy shot at a target until he hit it , then celebrated like it was some great feat.
Not to mention the ridiculous amount of money that was spent on his gun and equipment used to make this one hit.
He did not do it a second time. Why is that ?
If you give anyone enough ammo and time they can lob bullets into any target.
Sorry but I am still not impressed.
You may now have the last word.

I'm not going to argue about this stupid sh!t anymore. In conclusion. Shooting target while in scope at 800 not hard, at 1000 getting interesting, 1500 yes skill really kicks in, 2000 absolutely skill oriented, 2500 more than skill needed. 3000 if still can see target skill and the love for shooting ELR is needed. Once you can no longer see target but if you have enough rounds to continue to shoot until your forward observer tells you you hit it before the report is heard. Well your are a glorified trigger puller. That's it. Now if you had a camera system that allowed you to see the target and let you repeatedly hit said target over and over. Let's say 5 to 10 that's great. But a 1 time hit and call it good is bullsh!t. Follow up with another.
1 time = lucky
2 times =ok
3 times = fair
4 times = good
5 times = better
6 times = great

Just a follow up on the guy in this article. He won the King Of 2 Mile match last weekend in Raton.

Maybe Ranger1 will start a new account so he can keep trolling :)

"No competitor scored more than one hit at 3166 yards (1.799 miles), and no competitor scored even a single hit at the farthest target, placed at 3525 yards (2.0028 miles). So the actual 2-Mile target was never hit during the event."

So, technically he is the "King of 1.799 Miles"
