10/22 threaded barrel recommendations?
10/22 threaded barrel recommendations?
Hi all. Looking for recommendations for a lightweight threaded barrel for my Ruger 10/22. My kids really like to shoot this rifle, so the goal is twofold. One I'd like to reduce the weight, and two I'd like to be able to run my sparrow on the end to keep the volume down. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Tactical Solutions. Very light, great barrel. Not the cheapest.
Also, Whistle Pig barrels makes a light weight option.

I was looking at the Tactical Solutions barrels. Would you get the 16 in, or the shorter barrel with the suppressor shroud welded on?

I like the full 16", better accuracy. Also, some suppressors don't fit inside the shorter barrel, so keep that in mind if you want to go that way.

Good call, I want to occasionally use the octane as a spare 22 can on the rifle - it wouldn't have fit. Thanks for the tips.

Is it a takedown? I've got an unused lightweight bbl I took off mine. I went with the Tac-sol x-ring and never used this one. (actually I may have put 10-20 rounds thru it, I dont recall). PM me if you'd like more info.

Green Mountain has been making 10/22 target barrels for years and threaded is an option. They are the OEM for some of the aftermarket barrels: http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/ruger10-22 ... t-barrels/
Re: 10/22 threaded barrel recommendations?
Their prices are great; are they really heavy? They don't list their weight, so I'm guessing so. My kids like to shoot so I don't want to get to heavy.

The GM bull barrel is a fair sized chunk of metal and the Tac-sol is definitely going to be lighter, since it is mostly aluminum. That said, my middle-school aged children don't have a problem with the GM on a 10/22, but if yours are a fair bit younger, I could see it being a consideration.

Thanks guys. My oldest is still Elementary school-aged so I'm using a cut-down stock to allow him to shoulder correctly, and want to remove as much of the weight off the front of the barrel as possible to ensure he can safely balance the gun.

You could cut/thread the barrel that is on it.
This is what I did with a Marlin. Was under $100 to cut/thread.

10/22 threaded barrel recommendations?
+1 on TacSol
Re: 10/22 threaded barrel recommendations?
I picked up a tactical Solutions SBX Barrel, and the Magpul x22 stock. I had to do a little fitting to get the barrel shroud into the end of the stock, but it came out great. The rifle is super light, and by removing one screw I can change the length to work for either myself or the kids by adding or removing the spacers. I also picked up a Ruger BX trigger. The Sparrow threads perfectly into the barrel shroud on the SBX, and makes for a very compact, accurate package. Very pleased with it, and so are the kids. Thanks for everybody's input. Now I need to build another one!
