Optics for Mini 14 5.56
Have a Ruger Mini 14 5.56 and looking for optics for these old eyes. Been looking at the Vortex Strike Eagle. Looking for suggestions like I stated for these old eyes. Just target shooting. Thanks

Pretty much any quality brand will work. I had a 2-7 Nikon on mine.
What distances are you gong to be target shooting?
Vortex has a good warranty...a friend of mine had to send his back (scope wouldn't hold zero) and they took care of it no questions asked.

Oh "Ben Avery". Still learning the AZ lingo.
From what I understand that place has everything out to 1000yds so you still have to narrow down what you are trying to accomplish.
In general a 1-4 scope would handle most everything from point blank to 500 (or so) yards. If you are simply looking at hitting man sized targets.
If your goal is to shoot tight groups on paper you would need something with more magnification. Though with the Mini-14 you would also need to spend $$$ on getting the rifle ready for such groups as they aren't up to the task right out of the box.

I'm with Steve: I think a 1-4x would be fine for the Mini.
I have two Athlon Talus BTR 1-4x's and they've been superb. Great glass, functional and uncluttered reticle, lightweight, smooth and repeatable adjustments, and good price (~$200).
