224 Valkyrie Yet

Anyone besides me finding any interest in this cartridge, looks like a nice speedy flat shooter out to a 1000+ yds, looks like fun until you start adding up the costs of buying all the associated goodies of uppers, scopes, and etc. that would enable a guy to play, federal premium ammo. Is the brainchild behind it. I see PSA and others are producing uppers for the AR platform. Already lots of great info. and vids plastered on the interweb, maybe just another flash in the pan cartridge?

Yeah I have been interested, not ready to take the plunge yet. Specs and info looks great though. I just need to justify another AR caliber to my 6 already I reload for. I guess I need to figure out where it fits in and my expected use. Boy I sound to practical !

A little interested. I'll probably hold off on it for a year or two before I build one though, already have a few in 6.5 Grendel, so unless it ends up being more widely available than the Grendel and cheaper I probably won't dive in.

Yep, i was reading all about this platform in one of my rags, interesting read, seems the round makers always coming up with something new to add to the platforms, and gotta have, interesting ballistics on it for sure. as for long range shooting, why not stick with an older proven platform, just wondering

PSA is "Temporarily Out of Stock" on all complete uppers. The .224 does require a different bolt than the standard .223. I'm going to put one together (I hate the word "build"). I like the round, especially that the case is based off the 6.8SPC which there is a s*** ton of brass out there for. IMHO it's a better round than the .22 Nosler.

I'm going to go with the "wait and see" attitude, I never did see a price on the PSA upper, must be priced right if they can't keep them in stock?

Now that an Alaska move is in our future, I am considering the 224 Valkyrie. Distance shooting has not been an issue in southern AZ, but very well could be in AK. Need to compare nock down to AR10.

If you're shooting anything besides steel or paper, a 6.5 Grendel is a much better bet than the .224.

One reason for me to consider 224 Val is that it's a AR15 platform, small & light. If I go AR10 I would stick with NATO 308. Cheap ammo

Yep. Perhaps he's thinking of the Creedmoor, which does necessitate large-frame AR receivers.

Yes, most likely, but even then I'd probably go with the Creedmoor if I were building an AR10/AR308 platform rifle now lol.

Don't know that I would feel comfortable with 224Val carry in Alaska other than punching paper or sniping varmits. Accurate shooter.com has some good info.

My time in Alaska showed me .224 has very little use except for varmints or home defense. Look at the link above for specs vs Grendel on the terminal end. If you want a thumper for a std AR platform then Beowulf,.458, etc.. No long range shots at prairie dogs. Creedmoor for AR-10 Platform. What ever you go with, reload! , to save cost in Alaska. Buy dies,etc and some componts before you go. Nothing cheap up there.
