CMMG AR-15 .22 L.R. Conversion Kit

#1

Post by bill460 »

I have been wanting to get one of these for a while, but never took the plunge. The newer units from CMMG seem to have good reviews, in regards to both reliability and accuracy. I ordered the "Bravo" model from Primary Arms with 3, 25 round magazines, and it was delivered yesterday.

As soon as the heat lets up a bit, I'll take it out and light it up. It appears to be very well made. I've got a lot of AR's, so this thing will make them all more useful by allowing the use of .22 ammo, which I have a ton of.

One thing I didn't care for was the cheap ass blister pack they shipped the thing in. So I went to Harbor Freight and bought one of those medium sized Apache hard pistol cases for it, with the "pluckable" foam inserts. For $30.00 out the door, you can't beat the price, and it holds everything securely, and will prevent the unit and the mags from any damage.

Love the box!

Great kit, runs great. A mag loader for these really is worth it IMO. Some lowers magwells work better than others for fitment. Some need the magazine guides sanded down. I dont usually recommend Frog Lube but once i coated the unit it made cleanup a breeze. All i use on it.

What is the best magloader for these magazines? What do you recommend?

Just remember when you search for price with these things, that some kits come with only 1, 25 round magazine. While others come with 3. That's why there is such a wide price difference. They are also available with 10 round magazines for the communist states.

Those kits are OK, but a dedicated .22 upper is better.
The two issues are twist rate is way too tight for .22 rounds, ideal for a 22 is 1in14 to 1in16.
Also, if you shoot a lot of .22 out of an AR upper it will eventually clog the gas port and tube which doesn’t matter for the long rifle, but will turn your AR into a single shot.

I had one and found playing with the spring made a huge difference in its reliability with lesser ammos.

Certainly wasn’t the most accurate, but a ton of fun and a good way to build confidence
