How do you like the Ruger Precision 22lr rifle?

Discuss rifles, carbines, and other long-arms here (AR-15's, AK's, etc...)

They seem to be well liked generally? ...Don't seem to be available locally at this time. Mike

I was unimpressed. Mostly it just looks cool.

Not as accurate as my CZ 455, light years behind my Bergara B14R.

I’d rather have the American Rimfire Target, if I was going to buy a Ruger 22lr.

But how many other bolt-action .22s have a capacity to switch out a custom barrel?

I want to be able to (accurately) shoot Aguila 60 grain SSS ammo, which requires a faster twist than most .22 rifles have. Custom twist barrels are available for the 10/22 of course, as well as the Precision rifle. But are there others? This is the main reason I'm considering the Precision Rifle.

They are not bad for the price, a little hit or miss with the barrels. Some are very accurate.

I agree that they are not as nice as a CZ457 or Bergara. Or for that matter Anschutz, Kidd 10/22, Vudoo, Bighorn. It really depend on your game For $200-$300 they can be good, for more money you can do better.

Thanks for the info.... I went to the NRL 22X match at Rio Salado to spectate and check out the equipment..Not a wooden stocked rifle to be seen. Most of the shooters had hi dollar custom rifles and way big $$$$ scopes. At least one stage had targets in the 300 yard range. From what I saw some had a prone position, 10 shot and time limit.... Most said the Ruger was only an entry level rifle in that game.... At my age I'll look for a different venue (prone is not good for me).

The monthly NRL22 match at is friendly and low-key. RPR22 is fine for that. It's fun and the guys that put on the match are good people. Show up and shoot, don't worry about all the crazy positions, shoot em' prone if you want, you will still have fun.

I could be wrong, but I thought that Ruger "admitted" that the main reason they exist is to be a trainer rifle for the RPR's in centerfire and that Ruger made .22LR's that were more accurate than the RPR/22.

I’ve had three different guys next to me at the range with them. My cz455 Varmint was completely outshooting them. One guy got pissed and left after seeing my green monster target. He couldn’t even get one decent group. Much less shoot the monster. Possibly there are fixes that guys do to make them shoot good. But I was unimpressed. I’ll keep my CZ

Hummm... I'll look for a CZ 455, are they available?, I'd guess those that own one aren't selling them. I talked to a previous Ruger Precision owner Tuesday... He sold the Ruger... accuracy issues.. Who know's?

CZ doesn’t make the 455 any longer, they moved on to the 457. People with CZ’s don’t tend to sell them...that tells you something about the rifles.

Also, nothing is really “available” right now...unless you want to pay a premium on Gun Broker.

If you look at the CZ457, look at the MTR TRAINER. Match chamber as well as typical cz good shootingness! You can occasionally still find a new 455varmint

Thanks for all the feedback... I'm learning a lot. IF you want the best your going to have to spend BIG $$$ (Not new news). The CZ's will be major step up in accuracy and cost vs the Ruger.. (If I could hit a shot gun hull at 100 yards.. I'd be happy). At this point in time I just would have a difficult time spending $1200.00 for a .22 and no quality ammo in the stores. Thank you all for your input!.
