Be very careful if you trap them. They're easy to catch, but are mean suckers. Plus nobody will accept them from you, so their fate is in your hands.

Vyadmirer wrote: April 30th, 2020, 11:19 am Pellet gun enough juice? I would never suggest using a suppressed 22 in the city limits so that’s only option I guess?
Even a pellet gun isn't legal within Phoenix city limits without jumping through a bunch of hoops.
I have the PHX air rifle code saved on my home PC because I shoot my air rifle in my back yard all the time. I'll put it up later. It basically says you need to be safe, have a back stop, etc. Nothing about NO pest control.

Plus a pellet won't do much other than pierce the tough skin.

They are next on the meat list.

If the cat ladies in this 'hood keep it up...my hounds might find a fondness for trash panda and gutter turkey..

To further on with the legality of this...I sent an email to AZGF about sub section G.

Their reply was what I was looking for. I specifically mentioned pigeons, but I imagine racoons might fall under the same sugggestion as they aren't specifically managed by AZGF.

If you search the AZGF web page, it also says that racoons are one of rew species that can legaly be hunted at night!

I had them near Tatum and Greenway. They were never a problem though. Never even got in my trash by my grill.

A pellet gun can drop one especially if you're using a decent 22 one.

A whop from a shovel works real good if you can get close enough. Lot of experience with them and possums from back in Ohio. Possums are a bit more of a pain to take care of. They just don't know when their dead.

Not quite Phx Metro but there is a large population at Tempe town lake. I have mainly seen them on the SE side of the lake.

Use a live trap or dog proof coon traps baited with marshmallows. You won't get many unwanted animals using marshmallows and coons love them.
Fish and fish scraps work well in live traps but will attract other animals as well.

I'm not sure about AZ, I just moved here. But some locals have laws about where you can release trapped animals. Might wanna contact fish and game and double check first. CYA and all that.

Coons are vermin. If you ever see what a coon will do to a litter of kittens or a coop full of chickens, you wouldn't think about releasing them. Just dig a hole for them.
