I've got a Remington 721 30-06 Ackley Improved... Packs a punch...
The beauty of the Ackley Improved is that if you should run out of ammo, regular 30-06 ammo will work fine...

.54 cal Black Powder has been my weapon of choice lately. Easier to get drawn.

Re: Elk Rifle & Cartridge
Started with a Remington 30-06 but as I get older I don't want anything heavy. I got a lightweight savage 2 years ago in 7mm-08 that I use for deer and elk. I can carry it without the extra weight of some of the older guns or big bore calibers.

Marlin lever action in 44mag, iron sights. Taken 5 with this since giving up the scope. It's light and fast aiming for the way I hunt and stops everything it hits. All I need now is a tag

Re: Elk Rifle & Cartridge
Any Remington in 308 or 300wm if I have to reach out beyond 400 yards. I know you can shoot 308 over 1000 yards but drifts more with the wind. In fact, any gun you know and are comfortable with and know shot placement. Seen deer drop dead in its tracks with 22LR but elk have thicker hides and it’s all about shot placement.

Re: Elk Rifle & Cartridge
I have killed several Bull elk, several mule deer and a nice coues deer all with a custom Browning A-bolt 7mm Rem Mag using quality commercial ammo. Recently i have switched to a Remington 700 Sendero in .300 Win mag with a muzzle brake and probably will never look back from it till i can't hunt anymore. I have a several other bolt action rifles in 30.06, .308 and .300 WM all will do fine service on any AZ hunt. I have a Pronghorn hunt with my son and in the past i have always used the 7MM on pronghorns. Probably any centerfire rifle will suffice for the little Pronghorn. My son is also drawn and i think he wants to use the Browning so i will probably use the .300 just cause its what i have been shooting lately but we will see after a few more range trips. I do like the notion of hunting with one gun your proficient with but variety is the spice of life.
