Remington 700 in 30.06 with a Leupold scope.
I used it for every elk I have ever killed along with many deer.

300 win mag would be my preference. I've been eyeballing those Kimber bolt actions. They're nice and light. I haven't hunted in a while, but I was thinking about getting back into it soon.

7mm mag, Christianson arms mesa rifle, shooting hand loaded Barnes 150gr TSX-BT over 72 grains of Retumbo, its my set up for everything from javalina to elk. I feel like one gun and one load that you are VERY proficient with is better than a different gun and load for every different animal that you hunt.

K Im gonna be that guy here. Palmetto AR in .308 18” bbl using CoreLokt 150 sp. In the trees my glass is a Vortex Huey dialed in at 50yds. In the wide open spaces Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50 bdc. Both have Leupold QD mounts.

'06 is my choice. My FIL used a .270 quite effectively. My rifle was a Remington, my FIL's--I don't know. I feel no loyalty to any brand of scope. Something reliable and accurate is all I require.

I don't hunt much since the seventies and early eighties but back then, after trying different calibers, I always went back to the 30/06 usually in my M700 Remington or sometimes M77 Ruger. Over the years I'd gotten away from hunting and eventually sold off most of my hunting rifles.

Then I got a chance to do an elk hunt on a private ranch in Colorado back 2006. But it meant I had go buy another rifle. I choose another Remington 700 in 30/06 (this was before Remington sold out and their quality went to crap) because it always worked well for me way back then.

This year my two teen boys will be using a Tikka 7mm 08 and a 270 Ruger m77 in 270 winny. Both will handle Elk nicely with good bullets and shot placement.

1951 commercial Mauser chambered in 358 Norma Magnum; older McMillan stock and a Trijicon 3x9. I killed LOTS of elk with this rifle and a bunch of African plains game, too.

Used both 300WSM and 338 win mag, my nod goes to the 338. Have to say the 338 speaks with authority on both ends. Used both the 300WSM and 338 in Africa on a variety of plans game as well, again nod to the 338.

I have one of those I hunt deer with once in awhile but it is in .270 caliber and has a fixed 4X Leupold.

Hard to believe but my favorite is 300 WinMag. Setup in a Winchester model 70, Fajen laminated stock, action and trigger work by Accuracy Speaks, and a Fujicon scope.
