Backpacking or thru hiking?

Anyone do any regular backpacking? I’ve done a bit but always looking for more!
Also participating for classified access so please help a brother out

I used to do a lot of longer hikes, but time constraints limit that now to day hikes or quick overnights. Truck camping is my preference, but I'd love to do multi-day hike.

several years ago, on one of the AZ gun forums, a group posted pictures from an open-carry backpack overnight thru hike they did. 6 or 8 guys with backpacks and AR-15's out enjoying nature... WOW that looked like fun! I've thought since then it would be fun to arrange such a thing again, perhaps with planned breaks for some field-expedient target sports, maybe call coyotes near dusk or dawn....
My problem is, whatever weekend you pick... I'm probly hunting or shooting that weekend!
