Re: Crossroads Show, State Fairgrounds July 9,10,11
I went all 3 days helping a friend who sells awesome custom knives. Attendance was half normal ice house shows and there was a few empty tables. Always nice to see Muta4warrior there too. Prices on almost all guns was INSANE! However I did see a few really good deals on quality holsters, grips and ...

Re: Getting the hang of casting lead slugs
They look good. Good fill and minimal wrinkles. For complicated shapes you need to run the lead very hot. You look like you got the hang of it. One thing I have been doing to get decent minie ball casts is to keep the lead pot thermostat wide open, and keep a hot plate near by cranked up to about 5...

Re: Getting the hang of casting lead slugs
I used wheel weights for all my casting. Just make SURE you have adequate ventilation when casting. Those fumes could cause a health problem if you cast over a long period of time (years). I only cast outside, no way in hell am I playing with lead fumes in any kind of enclosed space. Plus when you ...

Pure lead. I have not had a chance to check the hardness of the "pure" lead. The metal is from Roto metals and can be scratched with a thumb nail.

Getting the hang of casting lead slugs
I think I got the hang of casting for my 54 cal muzzleloader. Only problem that I seem to have is running the furnace wide open and the lead collecting oxide quickly with high temps. I seem to be fluxing and scooping a lot of crap out of the lead with higher temps required for the minie ball mold. L...

Re: Phoenix Crossroads show, April 16-18
Went to the gun show today. Nothing new that anyone else has not reported. Just to add to how expensive things were, a guy was selling 5 lbs of "lead" ingots for $20. No description of the lead composition, alloy, zinc composition, hardness etc. When asked, I just got a shrug and "mel...

Lead Source?
I am just getting into casting my own bullets. I have everything I need but a cheap source of lead. I can buy fluxed and cleaned lead ingots off ebay, but its rather cost prohibitive. Anyone here cast their own bullets? Care to educate a guy that wants to learn and pass on the knowledge as well? I j...
