I'm gonna hafta give Nelson a visit.
I've got a 625 that needs a tune up.
Worst trigger I've ever felt, but one of the best shooters I've owned somehow.

Re: Long range rifle question
I'd start with a 6.5CM. The 6CM is great, but shorter barrel life will make practice a little more expensive. The 308win will get out to about 1k pretty well, but not without specific ammo. Federal Gold Medal Match 175gr would be my pick. 6.5CM will do it easier, and further out. And will be cheaper...

Re: Elk Rifle & Cartridge
If I were to take an Elk it'd be with my 308win Rem 700 with a 4-12x VX-Freedom on top.
Probably use the 165gr SGK's I've already got loaded up. With enough heads up I might work up a 180gr RNSP load though as long as I'm not expecting the distances involved to be too great.

Re: Opinions Wanted on Asking Price for Rem 700
Honestly, the market is so hard to judge right now my best advice is to put it on gunbroker with a bunch of pictures, a good description a long auction with no reserve and a penny start. You'll get market value, whatever it is currently.

Re: What's your go-to medium game hunting cartridge?
I've got a 243Win barrel on its way. A buddy pulled it off a rifle and cerakoted it FDE. Fingers crossed it headspaces OK on my rifle. If I've got to ream it a little, no big deal. I just hope I don't need it set back first. If it needs set back, I'll probably just order a pre-fit Remage barrel for ...

Re: M&P9 Shield Plus (13+1)
As good as this looks (and I'm a dyed- in- the-wool S&W fanboy) the Ruger Max9 looks even better to me.
It'll all come down to what feels best in the hand though. But the numbers on paper look good.

Re: What do you like in 22LR rifle?
I wouldn't mind a lever gun in 22. ... or a bolt gun ... or a semi... As long as they're accurate and reliable. I think I'm most interested in a Henry lever or maybe a Savage bolt gun. The lever actions are just plain fun, but those Savages are accurate for the price. A 10/22 is hard to beat for ge...

Re: New Ruger 44 special
I was a little worried about the forcing cone myself, but from what I've seen/ been hearing as long as you don't go all Elmer Keith on it, they're holding up just fine.
It for sure won't eat the same 44spcl loads as the flattop. But it isn't for just mousefart type loads either.

Cut it over size, and bed to fit. Sounds like as good of a plan as I could think of.

Re: Ammo Recommendations .308
I'll agree with the 175gr Federal Gold Medal Match being king of the hill for good accurate 308win. The 168gr loading being second place.
The Black Hills loadings are very good as well I'm sure.

There's a lot to like about that gun. I've got piles of brass and bullets, but no 44's currently... it's a sign!
Jeff did alot of reviews on stuff I wanted it seemed. Gunblast.com was a great site hope it carries on.

Re: Is Number of Rounds Fired Important?
It's one thing I'll ask about when negotiating deals. It's not that I care about the actual number. Hell, 10x that number through an all steel 1911 wouldn't phase me. But if they tell me it's something low, and inspection reveals serious wear I'll assuming their lieing for one reason or another and ...

Re: HK USC45 to UMP45 Conversion Gunsmiths?
I was friends with a guy back in Ohio who specialized in HK's that did those, G36-SL8 conversions and other stuff. He did amazing work, but has gotten out of the game.
I can tell you, it won't be cheap!

Re: Its Offical -- CZ buys Colt
Being acquired by a gun company as opposed to a private equity group gives hope that their story will end better than Remington's. I don't think it could have worked out better for Colt honestly. Outside of KelTec, I can't think of another firearm company as innovative as CZ. They've come out with ...
