Are you having problems with a rifle or handgun? Having problems with a magazine? This is the place to post for help or to help others. If you fixed that nagging problem with your AR-15, this is the place to post how you did it.

??? Convert S&W 1911 S80 to S70

Gunsmithing help needed.
I have a S&W 1911 Commander with Series 80 parts.
I bought the spacer from Brownells to replace the Series 80 parts.

How to remove the plunger in the frame?

The Youtube instructions say that to remove the plunger, I have to remove the extractor. However, the S&W 1911s use a frame-mounted hinged extractor. I can't figure out how to remove the plunger.

Do I need to remove the rear sight? Do I need to knock out the pin that holds in the extractor?

Your help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I figured it out -- in a manner of speaking. Smith & Wesson 1911s cannot be converted to Series 70 operation. There is no frame cutout for the spacer. They have designed the Series 80 parts so that they cannot be overridden. If anybody wants a spacer to convert a Series 80 to a Series 70, let me know.

The funny thing is, I have two S&W 1911 lightweight Commanders. One has the Series 80 parts; the other does not. Go figure.

Oh well,
