Time to ask the yearly question. Is the desert still open for shooting? How do you check to see the fire restrictions?

I still maintain that you have to be trying in order to start a fire while shooting. Unless you're shooting incendiaries. I've shot here in the desert for many years and not once came even close to starting a fire.

FYI Tonto went in to stage 1 fire restrictions a few days ago. Surprised they didn't do it earlier with the Horseshoe fire and Wildcat fire.

It’s generally right around Memorial Day weekend. Everyone is out trying to get the last of nice outdoor temps for a while. Too bad idiots always ruin it for everyone else.

Unfortunately is it far easier to start a fire unintentionally while shooting than most realize. Just rocks hitting other rocks can make significant sparks. It's crazy what .223 will do at night when hitting rocks downrange. Couple that with very dry grass and it doesn't take a tracer or incendiary round to start a fire.
I think the Mount Lemmon fire was started by someone shooting a dragins breath 12gauge flame thrower round.

Back when the cheap Chinese steel core 7.62 ammo was everywhere in the 90s, it happened a lot. Many dudes had no idea the risk they were running. I know one guy who had some heavy rocks in the bottom of a cardboard box he was using as an impromptu target stand he taped his paper targets to. One of his steel core 7.62x54R rounds dropped a little low and sparked off the rocks in the bottom of the box, and the whole box erupted into flames. By the time he was able run across the 100 yards to the box to try to stomp it out, it was too late, and a grass fire started. He barely had time to scoop everything up and toss into the back seat of his car and escape the wildfire that broke out.

Ban just went in for Yavapai. Checked my ammo time it was spot on shot at 6:45 no fire to report may try after 8:00 am to see if they are correct.
